XO Wave: Installation Guide
|
| Yup, it's that easy to install XO Wave. |
|
|
| Putting the icon in your dock is easy, too! |
This guide describes a basic installation on a single Mac OS X or
Linux workstation. For information on advanced
configuration, such as installation on multiple machines or to a
non-default location, see the Advanced
Installation Guide.
Requirements
Mac: XO Wave should run without difficulty on any
Mac OS X 10.4.4+ system with a G4 or G5 processor
which meets Apple's system requirements,
and includes at least 256mb of RAM. A faster CPU and more RAM
will allow more tracks and effects. A good graphics card
is recommended, especially for video sync. A CD burner that
supports CD Text is required for CD burning. XO Wave supports
most Core Audio devices.
Linux: XO Wave runs on Linux.
The system requirements are:
- Hardware
-
- x86 Processor (686-class or better,
e.g., AMD Athlon/Opteron, Intel
Pentium 3/4/Xeon/Core, etc.)
- 256mb RAM or more
- Operating System
- XO Wave runs on most Linux distributions. The installer will warn
you if libraries are missing. X11 and a window manager
are required for the GUI. Additionally, XO Wave may run
on FreeBSD systems with Linux compatibility features
installed, but this is not a supported configuration. If
you would like FreeBSD support, XO Audio is interested in
knowing so we can gauge demand.
- Sound Card
- XO Wave uses PortAudio
for audio I/O. In theory, OSS, ALSA, and JACK should all
work, though trouble has been reported with ALSA's OSS
emulation as well as some ALSA devices. Whatever device
you use must be configured already.
Note that running sound daemons (
artsd
& esd) may interfere with XO Wave. See
README.Linux.txt for more
information (all supported Macs include compatible audio
hardware).
- Java
- Your system must have a Java 1.4.2 or better VM installed.
Java can be
downloaded for free from www.java.com. Note that some
versions of Linux (including Red Hat) ship with
gcj, which is not yet a complete Java
environment. Instead you should use JVMs available from
Blackdown,
Sun,
or IBM instead.
- Optional:
cdrecord
- XO Wave can burn audio CDs using
cdrecord on
Linux. Without cdrecord
installed, XO Wave will run but CD burning will be
disabled. Note that
many Linux distributions put cdrecord in a
package called cdrtools.
